Generally most whiskies are chill filtered and this is most likely the case for most whiskies so you don't really see this detail on the labels of the whisky bottles. So when a bottle isn't chill filtered, it will probably be mentioned on the bottle.
When the whisky is chilled, the whisky naturally looks murky because there are some sediments/residue in the whisky. The reason why the residue is removed, (chill filtering) is purely for aesthetics reasons, so that most drinkers do not get put off by the look of the whisky.
This an ongoing debate, but it would be good for whisky drinkers to know that if your whisky turns hazy, it does not mean the whisky has turned bad! It is noteworthy to know that the Yamazaki 12 is actually non chill filtered!
